Derek Williams
Derek Williams enters his third year at Clark Montessori, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a track record of success in collegiate and high school athletics. Before joining Clark, Williams served as the Director of Athletics and Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Wilberforce University. During his tenure, he led the women’s basketball team to back-to-back NAIA National Tournament appearances in 2019 and 2020.
As an Athletic Director, Williams played a key role in reviving Wilberforce’s baseball program—bringing it back after an 80-year hiatus—with support from the Cincinnati Reds.
Prior to Wilberforce, Coach Williams transformed the women’s basketball program at Cincinnati Christian University, building a competitive and respected team. His coaching journey also includes a successful period at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, where he held multiple roles, including Interim Head Coach. While at Cincinnati State, his leadership contributed to conference and district titles and a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament.
Widely recognized for his energetic and passionate coaching style, Coach Williams has developed numerous All-American players who advanced to NCAA Division I programs. Notably, his 2015–16 Cincinnati State team finished with a 22-10 record before he accepted the head coaching position at Cincinnati Christian.
A Cincinnati native, Williams has more than a decade of experience coaching high school girls and boys basketball, along with 12 years of coaching AAU basketball. As a former dual-sport athlete, he deeply values the role athletics play in shaping student-athletes for success both on and off the court.
Coach Williams holds a Master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University–Irvine and a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.
He and his wife, Allyson, are proud parents of two children—Naomi (19) and Jayden (15).
